If you can stick your head under the dash and use a test-light, it is possible that you've either wired you ignition so that the key runs the car in the accessory position or that you've got a hot terminal and a long strand of wire touching another point. Use the test light to see where it's hot with the key in and turned (vehicle not running), and then take the key out and try it again. If anything's hot, your battery wire is in the wrong spot.
You might also see which wires you have coming off the voltage regulator, and see if the one to the switch is hot in the off position.
I'm not a genius with electricity -- I'm ALWAYS out in the midst of soldering smoke -- but the Switch Gremlin happened to me.
