Good Evening(here at least in sunny New England). I'm new to the Speedster group just having picked a CMC widebody about a week ago. I've had my eyes on these cars for years and always hoped to own one. I've had many cars but nothing as fun, simple and gratifying... Why am I just asking questions now after a whole week? I decided to drive it first and enjoy it before beginning to dismember it...
I need to first thanks Gordon Nichols first for corresponding with me before I bought the car about registration and such. Thanks very much to you sir if you are reading this as I may not have bought the car without your words of encouragement.
Tonight I began by taking off a rear wheel to see what bolt pattern was under my 17X8 inch Beyern wheels and spacers. They ride like a buckboard from the Old West here where the roads are not really fit for cars anymore. Behind them are disk brakes that the PO said may have come from a Corvette or something like that. In any case they have a standard pad (picture attached) and were very very worn. I pulled the pads and could not get the pistons to move one millimeter back in. I did read a post where they needed to be "rotated"? I've never seen or heard of that before having done other brake work but...how woukld that work. I did try the huge water pump pliers by the way...
I should say the car has disc brakes at all corners but the caliper has no markings whatsoever. I was hoping for something to help identify what they are. From looking in a Mid-America catalogue it seems to have pads that look like some they sell (rectangular with dog ears --- Textan TP22). The calipers don't look familiar though. They do have e-brake cables running to them and I have also attached a pic.
I've also attached a picture of part of the suspension where the torsion bar goes and how the rear shock is located. It doesn't look familiar to me either and was hoping to find out if its a modified fitment.
Generally I'm just hoping to find out what I have so I can source the correct parts and begin to learn how it all works together. Any help in identifying parts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Frank C.
