Last night I just ordered a box set of the 5 Herbie movies on DVD for around $57.00.I'm looking forward to watching them with my 5 yr old daughter (she loves Speedsters and VW's in general) who wasn't around when those films first came out. I didn't know a new production was in the works and that makes me happy except for the fact that it'll probably drive the prices of original Bugs through the roof.
OK, I have to jump in. When they started looking for the beetles for the new movie, mentioned above, one of my fiends sold his '63 ragtop that is to be used in the new movie.

I heard that they were looking for about 30 cars for the movie and then up'ed the count to about 60. The stunt coordinator wanted more. Some of you may remember an ad on the Samba that was looking for early ragtops,........well there you go.

I was told to keep the project under wraps, but now that the cat, or bug is out of the bag,..well.

I look forward to seeing the speedster in the pics and movie that is so cool!, Congrats.
Well nobody told me to keep it under wraps. I was even in the the scene of the race and I know who wins, but I'll never tell. Most of you that attended the Knotts show will remeber Trish (beautiful tall blonde)she is in the scenes also
It is the red speedster most of you saw it at Knotts.
As far as the cars used they contracted Randy carlson from Oldbug.com as I hear and they grabbed alot of 63's they even grabbed a Right Hand drive.
I got to see the puppetteers working all the hydraulics and gadgets. The funniest thing is that in the back seat there are amps and speakers but in the dash is the original 6 volt Saphire. They left the original Golde grap handles on the ragtop. I am sure glad I ave a 61 rag , a 57 rag , and a 50 rag (run the prices up baby)
I have lots of pictures from the set but I am not sure if I can post them without getting sued.
I would love to share them with you all.
I have to say it was quite an experience and I really enjoyed the special treatment I received by Buena Vista as a car owner.
Like I said I really hope it doesn't end up on the floor but if it does I have lots of pics to prove the car was there.
They only thin they preserved on the cars were the original ragtop Golde handle nad the sapphire radios. Other than that they hacked and welded all kinds of stuff. Check out the side airvents and the whale tail. Who in their right mind would have ever done that to the car. They put an american bumper on the front and no bumper on the rear. The decklid has a cut out so you can see the engine with a plexyglass window. The coolest Herbie is the junkyard Herbie. They have not modified it at all. It is alittle rusty but original. I got to see about 6 Herbies I don't know where the others were.
Know what? I got all the DVD's here last week and saw them all during the weekend. The package has some special features and among those there's one on snapshots of the production of the first movie along with interviews with the cast, etc. It's funny but in some of the cars for the original movie they installed Porsche 356/912 engines along with Porsche brakes, etc. There's a shot of one of the cars being serviced by a couple of mechanics, decklid open with a nice Porsche powerplant inside.....those were the days......
Guys, I went to see Herbie Fully Loaded and it's great! Check it out and you'll see lots of nice details for us VW nuts! You'll see lots of EMPI parts up close such as a shifter and valve covers, fleeting shots of dual Kadrons, dual Webers, the usual chrome pulleys, race rods, counterweighted crank and some shop talk (when they first rebuild it they install a new 2,180 cc engine) along with some technical bullshit which happens at the last minute and that I won't tell (wait until you see it). Of course, Lance's red Speedster makes a cameo appearance......
i saw the movie last week at a drive-in in cape cod. the whole experience was wonderful. my daughters were of course the biggest fans. it is realy touching to see them take interest in something i am so passionate about. makes me look forward to future garage days. by the way lance your car is beautiful.-chris
