I would always use bedliner in lieu of under coating. We've used a couple different types, but have good pricing on U-Pol Raptor from our local paint shop. The surface does not have to be rough. We clean it thoroughly, a light sand, a seal coat, then put the bedliner material over that.

Properly applied, it sticks VERY well and provides surprisingly good sound dampening particularly for higher frequency sounds.

I did not use a sealer. I went over the coated pans. I just scuffed them enough to get the shine off of them. You can use a stiff scotchbrite. I also treat any surface rust on the chassis with a rust coverter spray.

Here is my thought....the tunnel lasted 40 years with nothing. With me converting all the rust and then coating everything with this stuff should make it last at least that long.

So what happens in 40 years? I don't care! I will be long gone.
I used 2 cans of the frame coating for my chassis (tunnel, frame horns, napoleon hat, frame head, rear torsion tube). If you do that plus your body subframe, you'd probably want 3 or 4 cans since you will burn through them quicker than you think. Also, it's thin and will run and drip out of any hole it can find. A tarp and some rags are a good idea.
