Greetings Fellow Speedster Owners,

During Labor Day weekend I initiated myself into Speedsterhood with a 2,000 mile cross country jaunt in the '97 VS I bought in Los Angeles. Bought it Sat morning Aug 30 then drove it back home to Nashville TN. What an experience! The car's not perfect, but then we like to tinker on a cool car don't we? Someone on this site had suggested that newbies do subject searches on past messages for their information - that's exactly what I've done over the past few months - and it has been invauable in my attempt to make an informed buying decision. Also I've been in direct contact with some members here, and I particularly want to thank Dave West and Eric Kirzinger for their friendly exchanges, information, and moral support. I very much look forward to future miles and years in my Speedster, as well as sharing knowledge and experiences with this great group!

Regards,
Greg

Greg,

Maybe it was you I saw about a week ago in a black Speedster. It was about 20 miles east of Lincoln, Nebraska on I-80. The car was in the fast lane with the hammer down passing a string of 18 wheelers. I got back to Oregon yesterday after a 16 day, 6000 mile jaunt and it was the only tub I saw. Greg, if it wasn't you, congrats on the stamina it must have taken to do the drive you did. I was in a air conditioned
SUV so forgive me but my old age precludes such long jaunts in my Speedster, but back in the 60's I took many a journey like you did in a bugeyed Sprite.

Bruce,
No it wasn't me in the black one in Nebraska. Mine is yellow, my route from LA was I40 across Arizona, New Mex, North Texas, OK, Ark, and finally TN. Did it in 4 days, wasn't trying to set a record, but just wanted to get back home without taking too much time off from work. I believe if I ever go back to the desert I will prefer Air conditioning for sure, I think it was about 110 degrees that day! I stupidly missed an exit in west Arizona and darn near ran out of gas! Rolled into the ONLY place there was, the next exit on I40 - on fumes I think - their gas was $3.19 a gallon and I was GLAD to pay it!
Thanks Eric, 'yeller' or even 'yallah', I find that if you've got a sissy color car - it'd better be fast! Actually didn't think I'd care for yellow, but knowing it was one of the original color options - that made it tolerable. The attention its gotten around here is UNREAL.
Greg:

We've talked a few times offline. Please post your story (about getting the car home in full detail). It was a great story, congratulation.

As for my need Speedster, it's in the state and I hope it will be delivered today or tomorrow. I shipped it using DAS and I've been tracking it for a week. Although I am not a newbie (this is my second Speedster), I am still very excited.

Greg,

Glad you made it to the gas station that was selling $3.00 plus gas, the alternative would have been painful! The most I paid for gas was $2.23 in Austin. NV on US 50, the lonliest Hwy in America, as they bill it. Not as lonely as it was back in the 80's when I drove it for the first time. Cheapest gas seemed to be in Iowa, of all places. Nevada the most expensive. I avoided California so don't know what the tarriffs were there.

You have some consolation in knowing that Yellow is the most visable color for a car. I always drive my Speedster with the lights on, day and night for more visibility.

Enjoy, Bruce
Thanks Jerome, your car looks awesome by the way. The seller had a pic at Roadfly.org/porsche in 356's for sale category, don't know if its still there.

Hi Dave, it was an adventure that I'm not sure I want to repeat, highs and lows. I'll tell more later - I think it might take more than 20 minutes to type it all!

Bruce, I'd joked with someone before I left about getting stranded in the desert with buzzards circling overhead - it dang near happened!
