I have read that they are not very comfortable over uneven pavement, especially potholes. Normal sidewalls are quite thin, and flex a bit under vehicle weight. The suspension systems in new cars are designed around this kind of stuff. The new run-flat sidewalls are evidently rather thick, to support the vehicle weight, so they probably ride like a chunk of iron with our light weight. Remember, every tire is a compromise: Performance tires are not very good in the rain, and tires that "wear like iron" probably handle like iron tires should. Keep focused on what you really want from your vehicle.
Personally, I prefer some sort of max performance dry weather tire, and just cool it, or leave the speedy home when weather prevails. But I do respect your dilema when on a road trip. I just rely on AAA road service, and play the odds.
