Hello everybody, Weather is somewhat improving up north. I was able to get a few rides in my new (to me) early beck speedster. I just realized that the high beam indicator in the VDO dash gauge is not lighting up. It is wired with a white wire, the bulb does light up when I feed it external power but i can't get 12v between that white wire and a ground (brown wires).

I was wondering if anybody could help me locate a wiring diagram for those early beck speedsters (1996 ish). The turn signal control switch doesn't have much of a part number to google it so i am reaching to the community to see if somebody could have a clue before i jump in there cutting zip ties and reverse engineer the whole thing :->

Thanks

jc

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

All of those teeny-tiny bulbs in the gauges are the same so just swap with one from somewhere else to see if it's the bulb or not.   While I've gotten those bulbs from NAPA, you might be better off with CIP1 or Bug City - I think there might be two different wattages used... 3 or 5 watts, or something like that.  Not much, for sure.

To change bulbs, grasp the 1/4" electrical tab at the back and pull it straight out.  The holder (barrel) and bulb are removed as a small unit.  Then, holding the barrel, push the bulb in slightly and give it a 1/4 turn and it should pop out.

Here's a great link for VW wiring diagrams, which is not to say that the wiring in your Beck follows any one of them religiously, but it's someplace to start.

Almost all of the ones I checked showed the high beam indicator getting its signal directly from the same fuse in the fuse block that powers the high beams (makes sense, no?). So, you might check the fuse block for a loose or dislodged white wire.

On my VS, I think the signal comes from the high beam 'dipping relay' under the dash. You can find this by putting your head under the dash and listening for a clicking sound as you change the beam up and down.

Funny how I totally missed the "hot Wire" test
