There used to be a no-whistle gasket available. Hard to find today as it was 8 years ago when I had the problem. The guy in Utah (retired) clued a mechanic (also retired) how to mod a non-whistle gasket with a small hole.
Or, you can tell people "it's a turbo!"
Does the whistle change pitch as the engine revs go up and down?
quick way to tell if it's fan / alternator related would be to simply remove the belt for a few minutes.

What Ted said. Get the car to operating temp, turn off engine, remove fan belt, start car, rev engine. No noise = 1) bad belt or 2) fan shroud moved (not aligned properly) causing fan to rub on doghouse. 
Ok, if it's a gasket leak/whistle, it probably won't change pitch with changing engine revs. The aperature whistling will only get louder with higher revs.
If it does change pitch, then it's probably fan/shroud related.
Sound has gone away. Since the exhaust exists through the bumper risers and there are cone collectors maybe something got in there and whistled. For now, that's what I'm going with :-)

By working the accelerator pedal can you make it whistle a tune? That would be kinda cool.
