I'm curious about the longevity of the speedsters. I'd like to hear people chime in on their make/model and what the current age and mileage of their speedster is.

I guess that, as most VW's (I mention VW's because most of them in fact have air cooled VW drivetrains) they'll go on almost indefinitely if well maintained and not beat on mercilessly.
Isn't Jim Ignacio way up there with his 1995 VS? Didn't I read something recently that he wrote that he had about 70K miles on his little gem?
I believe Jim Ward has the highest milage speedster IM (per year). More than 16,000 miles since he got it (Jim correct me if I am wrong).

Jeff - as Ricardo mentioned, with proper maintenance and care, these VW-based cars (drive-train or donor-car) can go indefinitely. Properly prepared Speedys/Spyders can also prove to be the perfect car for cross-country adventures (see Jim W., Dale B., Paul H., Hoss, Angela L., and a host of others).
I'm second owner - my VS was a year old when I bought it 9 years ago. It had a couple thousand miles on the original 1776. Shortly after purchase I rebuilt it to 1835cc/dual Kadrons/external oil cooler (just to have a project at the time). While this is a very basic set-up, it has been a trouble-free daily-driver - I currently have 71K miles and going strong.
Granted, my 10-yr old VS has a squeak/rattle here and there, and leaks a little water (LOL) during the rare rainy day here in SoCal - but what the heck, the return on my initial $10K purchase is immeasurable (smiles per mile)!
