Yes, I'm going to have to make modifications as my car won't have the beam axle by then anyway. Probably I will have to weld up my own tow bar as they want more than the purchase price for shipping to here. Can make it for a lot less. Its just the time...
Did up a pic. of the two bars for comparison.
Have to mention that when I initially fitted the new bar, it would slide sideways about an inch or so on the beam. I added a clamping collar to the beam tube on each side to remedy this.

Bill, the length and width dimensions in your "2bars" photo present an interesting optical illusion when looking at the bars themselves.
Uhhhhh...OK....now....step away from the bong!

The one on the right should look about half as wide and twice as long as the one in the left, if dimensions are accurate.
It doesn't.

Thanks Mike.
I know what Bill was thinking right before he posted the pictures - "Mmmmmm, beer!"
Uhhhhh...OK....now....step away from the bong...er...beer!

Bill,
Did you take the mounts that you welded onto the vw bus towbar off of a regular vw tow bar or ar thos custom fab?

Spencer, yep had to sacrifice a stock vw bug bar for the mounts. Best case is to find one used for cheap.
I just pulled my car on a 350or so mile jaunt to Assateague Island in MD. Not a problem. I have some pics to post later. For some reason I can't upload pics from an iPhone.

Gotta say it is mucho handy having towed Blackie to the shore. Having a blast cruising Ocean City. Well worth the time and effort putting this bar together.

Hey, there's no "like" button on here! Good going WB, glad it worked out for you. That was always my plan when I had that late model Westy, but would've had to put a real engine in it to tow the Spyder. To camp and have the Spyder there too to go out would be pretty sweet.
My car 'day dreams' include a 911-powered VW dual cab transporter set up to tow the Speedy on a small Feather Lite trailer.

Bill, that's wicked awesome. AND you got some time away from Pennsylvania!
Brilliant!

Wild Bill - I'm guessing most every guy that drove by you on the road was thinking "Man! That guy is living the life. Must be nice!"
Glad you had a great time and arrived home safe and sound...well maybe not sound, but in one piece!
