Hey there,

I am thinking of buying a Spyder that has had the Speedster windshield removed and the smaller plexiglass one installed. This has left a number of holes in the fiberglass from the bolts. Anyone know what are the options for getting these filled and how much would it cost?

TIA,

Cheers,

Craig
you can buy filler from many places. I personally like Superfil from Polyfiber sold by www.aircraftspruce.com . It is an inexpensive, easy to use epoxy filler that is easy to sand. Put some blue tape on the inside of the hole and smush it in. Wait for it to dry and then sand.

it is matching the paint that might run you a bit.
Make sure whatever you use is well 'glassed' in from below as body flex WILL crack the filler in time and you will see a neat 'hole' in your paint again!
I have had my dash clocks moved by a previous owner and 8yrs on can see a neat (albiet faint) line where the original VW speedo was installed

This certainly is not an answer to your problem, but for those of you who are considering taking the Speedster windshield and replacing it with one of the lower plexi windscreens, one I can't immagine driving on the open road without helmet and goggles, two I've always wondered why no windshield has been mass produced that fits into the existing aluminum track already attached to the body, eliminating all that patching of holes business. Sometime in the next few weeks I'll try and remove my glass windshield and replace it with just such a plexi screen to see if theory can actually become reality.
Magwa,

have you seen the plexi racing screen in person? Is it the same shape/size as an original? I read tthe site that it is fitted from a 1957-1959, but not sure if that means the hardware or base or the entire screen.

I'm looking for an original style/shape windscreen and sidescreens for a 1959.

Hopping back over from the Speedster site with an update; the Superfil has been applied to the two largest holes in my car and hasn't shown any signs of swelling or reducing. I have done the initial sanding and there's one coat of primer on the dash holes where the windshield posts were.
Thought I'd pass that along. It seems to be a good product, from the results so far.
For the plexi windshield question, is Dario (Dman550) still around? I got mine from him.
