hood and truck latches?

What to use for hood and engine cover latches?

The hood seems to be a Karmaan Ghia but my favourite supplier, Cip1 does not have it listed. Where, other than Vintage, can I buy this part?
Is there another part that will work?

What to use on the engine cover - a simple bearclaw type or is there a VW part?

I've tried a couple of street rod latch combos but the work required getting them to operate correctly just isn't worth the time and effort. The best fitting latches are those available from Vintage. ~Alan

Am I correct in the front hood latch is from a KG or T-3?
If so what year?

Alan; did the Speedster project that you recently bought from Texas have an engine hood latch? My body is from the same manufacturer, and doesn't have a latch with it. I'm wondering exactly how a VS latch would fit/be mounted in this manufacturers body.

By the way, I've finally cleared the last NJMV hurdle,have it registered and have plates....just in time for winter.

It has a progressive 2 bbl Weber carb which I'll be removing to clean 5 years of residue from the idle jets (and other parts)as it runs to lean to idle properly. At 1600 RPM and above, it runs great, maintains a good mixture and burns clean.

I'll measure a CMC and the other speedster today and see if the VS latch will work. When I get into that speedster build in late December, I'll have some questions for you. ~Alan

Brian, Looks like the two piece VS latch will work fine.

Anybody ever use an electric (solenoid) latch on the engine cover?

I have one from (believe it or not) a Fiero and it looks close enough in bolt pattern and geometry to the one supplied by CMC that I was toying with using it.

Of course, I was also thinking of using a power window motor to raise and lower the engine cover, too, but that's another story....

I was considering using a spare windshield wiper motor that I have for the hood.

The good...you could incrementally open the hood from the drivers seat for extra moter cooling.

The bad...you need a way to mechanically disconnect the drive in order to open the hood if the motor fails to work.

Great stuff, but what model and year are the standard latches?

I recall seeing a VW number stamped on front pieces --- I'll see if I can still see the number when they are installed. The front one looks like same as used on an old '72 914 I had years ago. Rear latch has no number and looks pretty generic. (Pictures in the CMC build manual in library)

I can take photo with measurements if that would help?
