Bought a Porsche emblem for front hood handle.  Going to replace the IM emblem.  Porsche emblem just snaps in place with a fastener.  IM emblem has a nut that must be unscrewed.  Nut very difficult to get to with hood handle in place.  Does handle have to be removed to replace emblem?   Can't really see what holds the handle in place through the small holes in back of hood.  Help.

Are we sure that's the correct hood handle for a speedster?  That looks like a 356 Pre-A hood handle. All models except Speedster.

The speedster handle, has three points to fasten it, but it's shaped slightly different than the one pictured above.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the correct handle for a speedster. According to the SierraMadre site - the handle pictured below is correct for the Roadster D:

On my speedster, I simply threaded the 'stem' on the emblem and put a not on it. My hood has an access hole behind the latch where you can access said stem.

Oh, and I also recommend the grommets/gaskets under the hood handle. They do seem to tie it all in nicely.

Hope this helps,

Ted

Was able to replace hood handle badge without removing handle.  I could not get to nut holding badge in place so I drilled it out.  Ruined IM badge in process.  IM rear lettering easy to remove.  2 small nuts.  However holes do not match.  5 holes had to be drilled.  New Porsche lettering partially covers 2 old IM drilled holes but not completely.  Going from Porsche to IM lettering will require covering or filling in 5 holes.  May not be able to cover holes since Porsche lettering is wider. Not perfect but I got tired of people asking me what make of car I drive.  Now they can assume its a Porsche.  And of course it is MUCH faster now.

... I completely understand. The build quality of Intermeccanica's are so poorly done that you really don't want to put a Porsche badge on it.

The previous owner of my car had removed all of the Porsche badging and replaced it with the Intermeccanica badging. He was very ashamed of the car.

My holes cannot be seen.  Only holes that are incompletely concealed are holes drilled by IM.  I will not be going back to IM badges.  My switch is definitely permanent.  I drill on the car all of the time.  I have protection under the car to cover the engine and transaxle.  I have re engineered the rear frame where the motor mount attaches to prevent the engine from hitting the frame during engine torquing.  I plan on installing fog lights.  Heck my drilling has only just begun.  This car is a hobbie, its not going into a museum.  And now its MUCH faster.
