This was a simple mechanical improvement to hold up the engine lid. I didn't have a milling machine back then so I had to drill all those holes in the hinge and file out the slot but it works really nice. Didn't think about those little air cylinders then or I may have done that. I can't imagine anything going bad or melting with this one in a fire though.........Bruce

Maybe, this is an other way to do it.
I used 2 gas presure springs from the home improvement marked usually used for kitchen doors. The original ones for cars were much too strong. The car springs have arround 1500 Newton and they shoot the lid to the roof... These ones have 100 Newton presure and work perfect.
