After talking with everyone at Paso Robles two weeks past I am going to be manufacturing both HOOD STRAPS and LUGGAGE STRAPS for speedsters and spyders. As a saddlemaker and leatherwork instructor I bet I can make some straps that blow the others out of the water. AND I will have a special price for members of the SO group. Let me know directly (dustyjohn AT aol.com) if you are interested and I will put you on my list to contact when I get them up and running (3 or 4 weeks from now). I am currently at the Carlisle show and talking with the folks here about needs and wants for design.
For anyone interested (who isn't keeping up with posting on this site) I have been making the luggage straps for quite some time now. I have sold them to lots of folks with Speedsters so check with others to affirm quality.

I still do not have a source on the metal fasteners for the Hood Straps. Kirk (Vintage Speedsters) is supposed to be having some made. I hope it is soon so I can make these for you guys, too.

Hello everybody. In case you want bonnet straps like the original ones used on PORSCHE racers you have to search for/or copy a pair of these. They really differ from the ones as shown in this topic, which origanally were made for Mini Coopers (they come from England, don't they?) I also add a pic of Lee Raskin's racer, which has the correct ones.
The hardware of the PORSCHE-version is made of chrome plated messing and has three assembly points. If you want to spend some money to stay as closse as possible to the originals... you can get them from Russ Rodriguez at Fibersteel.

Lane,
You are making me blush!!! Now, probably Vince will jump in and puncture my ego-balloon. Oh, well, it was nice while it lasted.

Seriously, If anyone needs the hood straps I have been making them for quite awhile now. $75 and shipping. The full set for the back Luggage Rack is still only $120. In fact, I just sent a bunch over to GERMANY. Can you imagine that??!! I also sent 4 sets of original Fram Oil filters with straps and brackets to Germany. I guess it is easier to get restoration parts here than in the Mother Country. Ain't that a "mother"?

Lane, you should be coming to Morro Bay. It is getting closer and you will miss out on the fun !!!

Happy TGrails,
Dusty

TC, those were the 550 straps intended for the rear clamshell on a Spyder. I got them from Dario Calandra, in Canada. They were pretty steep, but I don't remember how much. I ordered them, my hand-brake, windshield and the circular ducts for the rear cowl (only used the windshield and brake) all at the same time. I think the straps might have been $150 for the pair.
Dusty's will easily match them for quality.
Dario's website:

Scroll down to see his parts. It's kind of difficult to get to the prices page without looking at everything carefully. I don't know if it's been updated.
I looked at the parts for sale list, and it looks like he might be out of the straps. He was great to deal with, but very busy.
Yo Cory: Seems just like old times, MGM, what w/ you posting up all over the place. Good to hear from you on the SOC Forum, although we know that posted address (Hanover) is somewhat in error these days. It's cool the shop you're in lets you on the web and in touch w/ the group. I am not sure which crazy bunch of knuckleheads is more entertaining: the camo-clad group you are dealing with "over there" or the SOCers. Lucky you: you have both.

Pirates: bad; SOC: good. Life is simple ;-)
