After about 4 months of having issues with the hood release, having replaced parts, including replacing the whole latch assembly at one point, etc. ... I have had it. If the hood is closed gently then pushed down to latch the release works fine, if the hood is inadvertently dropped, I have to get under the car and pry the mechanism a bit to get it to release all the while having someone pull the release cable out. Enough of that BS!

So I said WTH...I can deal with two buckles and straps to get into the trunk and ordered a set of hood straps from Dusty.

My question is: For anyone using them is there a pattern to use? I want to install them so the hood stays down tight, keep an aesthetic angle on them and be functional

I put a set on my Beck early on in my ownership as a form of insurance since at the time my hood would mysteriously pop open. The hood itself had a safety catch, but figured $100 straps would be prudent. However, I don't think you'll find them capable of keeping your hood down tight. As in a belt around your waist, you need to suck in the old gut to get a tight fit after relaxing, something you can't do with a 356 hood.

Regardless, you'll still have the good feeling that your hood won't go flying up and break your windshield, or worse. I spread mine out fairly wide as you can see. Under hood fiberglass reinforcement location might dictate where the screws go.

As for hood straps, I am getting them installed on my IM6.  I'm not worried about the hood flying open - I just like the looks of the straps.  BTW, they are from Dusty.

Here are some 'fitting' shots of where Henry is placing them on my car.

Scroll down a little to see the straps.  Hope this helps in your decision making.

You've been holding out on us, Bob! That's fantastic progress on your car.

Pie-sectioned rear fenders? Check. Lowered rear wheel opening line? Check. Re-shaped front wheel opening? Check.

Everything that makes 'em cool (none of which I have), all rolled into one. Really, really cool.
