Hood straps?

I put a set on my Beck early on in my ownership as a form of insurance since at the time my hood would mysteriously pop open. The hood itself had a safety catch, but figured $100 straps would be prudent. However, I don't think you'll find them capable of keeping your hood down tight. As in a belt around your waist, you need to suck in the old gut to get a tight fit after relaxing, something you can't do with a 356 hood.

Regardless, you'll still have the good feeling that your hood won't go flying up and break your windshield, or worse. I spread mine out fairly wide as you can see. Under hood fiberglass reinforcement location might dictate where the screws go.

 

Agreed. For the straps to actually hold the hood down tight by themselves, they would need to incorporate springs (or use a rubber strap like on a Jeep hood) or an over-center latch to put tension on them.

 

 

G.R. - if you are ditching the whole hood latch thing, how about a couple small twist-lock hood pins (you're a Cobra guy after all). Place them in a location that could be covered by the leather straps like on Rich's car. Aesthetic look of straps with security of hood pins.

As for hood straps, I am getting them installed on my IM6.  I'm not worried about the hood flying open - I just like the looks of the straps.  BTW, they are from Dusty.

One of the things I always noticed when displaying my old Speedster at any type of car show was the infatuation with the hood straps. Good choice, Bob, and your car is looking super!

Pie-sectioned rear fenders? Check. Lowered rear wheel opening line? Check. Re-shaped front wheel opening? Check.

 

Everything that makes 'em cool (none of which I have), all rolled into one. Really, really cool.

Well, that's the expectation!  It's a long build process, though, and it's sort of like waiting for Christmas morning when you were a kid.
