I have great news. After long years of trying to decide what to do about a paint job, several things have happened in the last couple weeks which have led me to a conclusive decision. First was our esteemed colleague in Wisconsin, Rich Drewek, drafting up what the car would look like in my favorite color of Greyhound Bus Blue, circa 1940. It looked good to me, but didn't quite do the car justice. Several friends offered me some good advice, and Rich drafted up a second rendering -- and hit a home run.

So, it looks like she'll stay silver and orange. That's not the best news, believe it or not. A guy who lives close to me has an old (not older, but outright old) IM, and he's frustrated with his inability to get to his mechanicals. He's brought a couple TVR Griffiths back from the brink of death, and has a couple Avantis besides -- and is a GREAT fiberglass guy. He's offered to help me fill and smooth, prime and paint the Sloppy Jalopy in time for Carlisle, if I'll help him create Hoopty Junior.

How cool is that? I get to help somebody "Eff" their car up, and I get an at-cost paint job! (No, seriously, he wants to open the back of his car! I'm trying to steer him in the direction of the slotted, 'Typ I'-style hatch. We'll see where that goes. HE wants a hinge-style mechanism, but has a Type I engine.)

So ... The first picture is Rich's modification in PhotoShop. The other two are just here because Theron hasn't stopped me from uploading more gratuitous photos of my POS yet ... :)

It's been a while since I posted an aerial. There have been a few changes since the last one. By spring, I may be referring back to the 'Wax' thread -- or ordering some SpeedShine from Griot's -- but for now, I still have half a can of primer left.

Thanks, guys. I owe a debt of gratitude to Rich. An egg sammich at the very least!

Paul and Kelly, no problem. I'll keep you posted. I have a feeling if I told Mr. McKenney he had offers to help from an architect and a physicist/mechanical engineer, he might just take you up on helping him out.

I couldn't think of better guys to have around.
Do I REALLY believe this/you? Are you honestly gonna pitch that silly idea for the Gulf sponsored 917s in the trash and do it up like a PanAmerica car?

If you are, get in touch right away and gimme a list of what you want/need for the car, OK? I'll drop a huge box into the UPS for you, right after Christmas, just wanna wait until the Holiday shipping rush is over. Hate to have the stuff get lost or damaged.

If you're gonna F&CK it all up and make it look like a clown car later on, I'm gonna be pissed.

Whatever you need or want for the body/interior, I have or can get or can make for you. My contribution to good taste.

Get in touch my boy, Santa's got some shit for you !

TC
TC, I'll give you a call. Depending on what Wolfgang really wants for that hood -- $300 is his current asking -- I'll have a few things to request of you. For starters, possibly that old CMC hood handle (for my beer fridge door), two sets of exterior Brit trunk hinges, a set of wipers with your 'holy' treatment, a set of black latch-style seatbelts ... I'll put a list together.

I'm going to need some 914 seats, complete with tracks, if anybody has a line on a pair.

Bruce, thanks! Hopefully that looks as good on the car as it does on the screen.

Paul and Kelly, I spoke to Fred this morning, and he's going to cut the back of the body off on Christmas day. He's hoping to find the source of an oil leak, then he'll go from there on the body stuff.

He likes the idea of you guys helping him out. Here's his car from when I first ran into him in 2008:
