Sarah is my sweet bride, not my daughter. I don't think my progeny would have the same appreciation for the car that Sarah does. It was in 1963 that Sarah wanted a bug. Her Dad told her that while she was in college she could have a car since she was living at home. He thought that VW's were too dangerous, so he bought her a Metropolitan instead(?!!!).
This is a shot of the engine compartment of Sarah's recently acquired '63 VW Sedan. I spent some time on Thursday installing a Pertronix igniter, wires and hot coil along with some routine stuff like plugs, rotor and distributor cap. This made the already healthy 1641cc engine quite a bit crisper. The engine has an Engle 110 cam and the carbs are baby Dells. All in all, quite a nice package. I estimated that I was getting about 29 mpg on the trip back from Georgia and the engine purred.

The car was purchased via TheSamba from an owner who had acquired it about 5 years ago from a painter who participated in a total body off pan resto. It has a mild slam look to it, since it has dropped spindles and is running 135's in front and 195's in the rear.

There was a transaxle problem with it (gear crunching going into second gear) for which we negotiated a reduced price. It was repaired here in Knoxville by a guy I subsequently recommended on this site.

What can I say? Sarah loves it and I'll be on my back adjusting valves again. Life is forever beginning.

ps. The "Scat" sticker is the only thing Scat about it.
