That wouldn't fly in Stanistan. Mrs. Galat wouldn't have it.

What I did do was give her a single stall, separated by a great wall (no metal shavings shall pass). Her side will be the "clean room", my side will be a working shop.

The entire thing is just short of 13 ft high (high enough for a Bendpak 2-post 10K lb lift), and 20 ft wide x 38 ft deep. Each side has a single 10x10' overhead door with 2 rows of windows. I've got a separate room (accessed from the outside only) for lawn and garden tools, and a "man-room" half-bath with a toilet and wash tub. I'm heating the concrete under the entire thing with a hydronic loop. I'm putting in a dedicated A/C system for the garage and shop (no more excuses). I plan to build a gas-fired powder-coat oven big enough to do some significantly sized pieces (rims and the like). I've got a Quincy 5 hp 2-stage 80 gal compressor. I did stainless benches in the last place, and I think we'll do it again here. I should have enough room for 3 cars, easily-- assuming one is on the lift.

It's about to kill me though. Building houses is a young man's game.

You are so right, Stan.  But so is restoring houses.  Since retirement, I have restored a cottage/studio on our property, and now our 1856 house.  It's a lot of work sanding floors and wood trim; having plastering done; having external stone work; interior framing; putting on a new roof, etc.

The big jobs I contracted out.  The manageable jobs I have done myself.

And I ain't that young any more.  Maybe stupid, but not young.
