I am building my own Speedster chassis, just wondering if anyone can help with a few measurments. What size is the floor from the front of the rear seat to the front of the footwell and what position is the gear lever(measurment from the front of the rear seat to gear stick)?
Also thinking of making my central tunnel 7 inch X 7 inch, this is a compromise between being ridgid and looking reasonably authentic, could I get away with it being taller for more ridgidity? Your opinion is welcome.
Thanks.
Chassis is coming on well, photos to follow soon!

If you want to increase the tunnel height just build a second structure above it. The tunnel is the primary structure. Cutting the tunnel in a longitudal direction and added two long seam welds for your finished structure will decrease the strenghth efficency by 30-40%. Additional reinforcement such as ribbing would be required to add strength in this case. It's alot of added work. The taller tunnel also will limit your bucket seat selection. Most of the speedster seats tend to flare out as the back rest goes up. Find your seats before you make the tunnel modification. If you are going to build or customize your VW frame use the Speedter body frame as a jig. I have plenty of pictures of my ongoing project in my picture folder under " Jogyver". This is all based on experience.
