How do I attach baby moon hubcaps?

Well my caliper only goes to 5" so it's pretty useless for this. But see below for the rim measurements. Crude measuring tape shows 10" diameter.

I tried the heat gun again, this time hotter. At one point I banged it enough to barely hang on. But it popped off with a slight touch.

I also noticed that the front right isn't as smooth as the others, indicating that @Theron had trouble getting that one as well.

I unpacked the second one (my spare) just to see if it's a bad stamp. They look and measure the same. I tried delicately to press that one on and it's the same exact size.

I can't see any markings on the wheel to tell me what kind they are. Maybe you can tell?

I think I'm done for good. Anything more is just testing my sanity.... unless there's something new to try.

During my seat belt installation, we had to take the rear caps off. I took a moment to see if they are different that the spares sent to me from Kirk at VS.

Here's what I learned:

1) the new spares are noticeably smaller than the existing caps

2) the existing caps came off with a healthy pry/tug and fit back on with a healthy push from the side, as you all above kept saying

3) the old ones fit on the front wheel (so it's not the wheel!!!)

4) the old ones do not have the west coast chrome label

I'm going to message Kirk now about what to do next.

@RocklinMike was also kind enough to offer some to me as well. I just need to find the time to ride up and visit him. And make sure they fit.

I still haven't solved the fit problem. I retried today only to have the hub spin down the street. But I did manage to take a hubcap gold panning. Thought you'd enjoy. At the Auburn Confluence.

There's still gold in them thar hills!  I'd try the repro baby moon from CIP1 (note they also have one that they say only fits their wheels)

Ryan, if you want to ditch the baby moons, I have a set of spinners with chrome lug bolts that have your name on them.

that is some cold friggin water right there all from snow melt from Sierras..wont find much gold there but my son goes panning on his ATV off in the boonies...some days nothing but recently he and his buddy got an ounce in a few hours, but it dried up so they left

So I finally got a hubcap to stay on!

Here's how I did it.

First, don't order a ton of different hubcaps. I bought 6 before I got one to fit. Just order from VS directly (for VSs, obviously). The first two I purchased from them probably would've fit if I followed my new instructions.

1) put the cap on two of the four nubs near the top

2) rotate the cap to see if it gets a little closer to fit anywhere (not as much for new caps, but for ones that you've tried before, they start to seat themselves a bit)

3) press in the cap over bottom nubs (or bang with the bottom of your fist)

4) take a mallet and bang the cap over the bottom nubs a bit more to fully seat them. taking care not to dent. stay near the sides for strength.

After I did this with new hubcaps, it worked. 500 aggressive & windy miles so far. Now I can take pics of all sides of my car again!

My other 3 are pretty banged up. So I'm ordering another 4 from VS to keep me well stocked.

The other 5 are gold pans now.

Good luck panning - maybe it will pay off enough to cover the new caps!

I did it on the low heat setting. Massaged it onto the raised bumps, until I could smooth it over the last one. It was warm enough to wear gloves, but you don't need to smelt gold, so not too hot.
