Recently I've been investigating 356 replica vehicles. The most recent one on e-bay. The seller had no idea who the manufacturer was? The only thing he could tell me was it had a bug frame! What questions do I need to ask him and what will I.D. the manufacturer. Any one else I ever talked to knew the manufacturer , so there wasn't any info that I needed to know. Also is there any kits that you'd advise me to stay away from and why? Thanks J.R.

Take some pictures and we could probably tell you who made it?? If he doesn't know it is probably a CMC, but it may possibly be a Vintage kit that was built by the first owner. Pictures tell a lot here!!! Also you need someone who knows VW drivetrains to do an inspection for you.
CMC provided a metal nameplate with the Certificate of Origin that actualy has the body serial number stamped into it. Guess it would be possible that builder might not affix that plate to vehicle. Not sure if FiberFab provided such a plate before they sold out to CMC. Many CMCs were sold with optional VINTAGE gauges (says VINTAGE on gauge itself) - so if it has those gauges suspect it is CMC (but I choose to replace the VINTAGE with VDO gauges). CMC also use a polished one piece cast aluminum rear grill that looks like a hibatchi grill so that is another CMC give away. CMC door handles do not have key opening in the button either.
