How heavy is a flat 6?

Any idea how much a Porsche flat six weighs?

From Owners' manual specs for 1980 911:

Engine-
Weight: 441 lb
Power: 180 (DIN hp) or 172 (SAE hp) at 5500 rpm
Displacement: 3.0 liters 6 cylinder boxer
Compression: 9.3:1

For comparison a VW T4 is 244 Lb and a T1 is 215 lb approximately.

As I've said before, a 911 six in a Porsche replica makes it very ass-end heavy and screws up the handling. The Polopolous 911-4 engine weighs about the same as a type IV.

Maybe the older flat 6 weigh less cause two of us lugged a short block around on a pallet with no trouble. In Kennedy Engineering's little booklet on engine swaps they list a flat 6 at 281 pounds??

I think I will stick to the Alfa Romeo Flat 4, about the same weight as a beetle engine with 118hp as standard! My design is all about handling, I am building a custom monocoque chassis with pushrod suspension(photo's an site soon), I do not want to upset the balance by fitting a 440 Ib beast to my chassis, although I am still considering a 24v 190hp Alfa V6 engine, all ally, same wieght as a bettle engine.

...a twin turbo Maser! I'd like to see one of those Bi-Turbos in there...
