I can't seem to find this information in any books I have by what is the maximum oil temp for a stock 1600? Recent Carlisle trip showed up to 260 degrees (gauge). I just purchased a dip stick gauge which showed 200 degrees under simular situation. (I'm assuming the dask gauge is incorrect). Anyways, how hot is too hot? I also ordered a thin line sump.

Hi Bob
The Gene Berg "GB227" oil temp dipstick has saved my bacon (motor) in a couple of cars. For about 20 bucks you get a sensing dipstick that wires into your oil pressure light sending unit. When your oil reaches 227 degrees, the light will begin to flicker letting you know things are getting too warm. Simple, cheap and effective.
Good luck, Ernie
