Hi Guys,

The paint on my spyder is whack,
old, burned up, chips, someone tried to buff it and went thought the paint to the glass on both rear fender tops.

I went to one nice shop in LA where they do lots of great cars.
Panteras, Lambos, Maseratti's.

After a good look at the car he said for $4500 cash he would do a killer job.
dupont paint metalic silver 3 base coats and 4-6 clear.

He said to do it right it would take 3 weeks.

I plan on seeing a few more shops. But his work is very good.

This seems like a hell of a lot of money, but It's probably fair if it indeed is that many hours of work.

Greg at vintage is on my list of calls.

Thoughts?

Well, I have a 70s VW bus that I wanted to paint - three shops said about 4000. A Maaco job with mibnor body work is going to be about 1500.

If you strip the car you can save some labor. 4500 for a great job does not sound too far off. 2000 for a decent job is probably possible. My estimation.

I had the rear bonnet done, stripped down, Dario scoops fiberglassed in, red darts added, paint matched perfectly and my name with the German flag added above the licence plate and below the grill. Took about a month and came out beautiful. The cost would have been $1200 but since the artist who did it was a friend of a friend he charged me $800 and a case of Pilsener Urquell (his bonus). So $4500 does not sound bad for the complete job. I never realized how much labor is involved in just the prep work.I think they must have wet-sanded for a week after the fiberglass work was done.
