With clip on valve covers and a car lift, the job can be done in less than 15 minutes by a competent mechanic. The shop could have a flat fee for this common of a job, or bill it out strictly as time. I'd think asking more than 1 hour (Minimum allowable time for most shops) would be dishonest.

I just had my Spydie's first well baby check up and the total from a qualified, award winning restoration mechanic was $237. BUT, he also put on new metal fuel filters (2), adjusted my seat so I can use a smaller pillow to reach the pedals, and mounted a difficult to mount license plate. He also tightened all the engine bolts. He also test drove it, for which I think he should have PAID ME!! ha
If you pay more than $150 or $200, I think that's too much. However, I am in the South. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. v v
Going rate for valve adj. from a good air cooled guy is $35 in hawthorne ca.
that includes new gaskets if you need 'em.

not sure what mike does an oil change for.
I do them myself.

The thing I love about mike at durkee is he does the work with you standing there. You learn something.

After watching him fix my clogged jets, he showed ME how to do it myself.
