My experience is that if you are purchasing a kit, then add into that amount the necessary goddies to complete the build.
This is a reasonable estimate when purchasing at retail costs that you'll invest to complete a speedster..Yes you can short cut here and there some of the items, cost wise but I don't think most here would go the route....and you'll only end up changing out those items as you won't be satisfied.....

So here you are a reasonable estimated Speedster grocery list.

Speedster kit(11k) shipping(1k) shortened chassis(2k) engine(3k) trans(700),wheels(500), tires(400) add (1500+) for misc items (fuel tank/shifter/ sound system / parts shipping costs / tax on individual items etc etc) you have a total in excess of $20k

But to build your own speedster is a rewarding experience ! By doing so you wil know the entire speester bolt to bolt and be able to do your own service reapairs and upgrads without being intiminated with the 'unknown"

Depends how frugal and pateint you are. Also depends on how much of the work you are willing to do. I can do all the work on my car. I bought a unfinished kit for $3400 with pan, rebuilt the pan $1400(including new disc brakes and stock chromies), nicely done 1641 with duals, new set of ebay guages $250, $2500 in other misc stuff, paint wiring etc... $8000 or so

and lots o labor... priceless.
