That's the trouble...keeping the price at $26,000 would be a VERY hard thing to do!
I believe that's turnkey, but as George mentioned, it would probably be with a near stock 1600cc VW motor and four wheel drum brakes etc (or should I say lack of etc). When I bought my 84 IM it had a stock 1600 in it and is was S-L-O-W.

I priced a Speedster recently. I think it came out to around 34 to 36g. That was for a nicely equiped car, but not on the level George is building. That 26G is for a D Vert.. add a grand or two for the Speedster, and add for the windows and proper seats, and, ,,,,,,,,,,

Beautiful cars. I love my VS and am very happy with it. But, I may get that fever that Geo got bit with. It's tempting.

Jim, it's not so much a fever as it is a finality. I've been around sports cars and motorcycles all my life but at age 65 I can see that my "endless summers" are about over. A few years ago I thought about what my "last sports car" should be - restored Jaguar 120M roadster? Another Ferrari V12? Certainly none of the current stuff as you can't work on them yourself without the commensurate computers, and most of them aren't much fun to drive anyway.

My ex-convertible "D" was meant to be that car, the pretty vintage look, comfortable, improved handling and performance, etc. So I drove it for 5,000 miles and wanted more power and different gear ratios, etc. Fairly big money to upgrade.

So I sold the "D" (and sort of still regret it) and ordered the Speedster with Godzilla engine, very special 901 5-speed, etc. I think of the new, in-progress car as "The Last Hurrah".

Even though you're older than I am, we both remember a better time (I think). The 50's and 60's were two great decades and I'm glad I spend my childhood growing up in those two decades. We have more 'stuff' now but I don't think we're better off. By the way, my best friend (our local vet) just turned 66 and I plan to have him for a friend for many more years. And as coincidence would have it, his name is also George.
