What makes me laugh about this thread, is the original post is asking about the safety of a car he is picking up the next day. It is not a question of safety and if he should buy one of these cars, which is what Bagger's response would indicate.

This is a classic case of someone answering a question with an agenda, and information being spewed out that was totally irrelevant to the actual question. Some of which wasn't even accurate.

By the way, my car is not the gold standard of these car's. The best car, the "gold standard" has yet to be built by anyone.

Ironically, the company that gives me the most hassle over warranty issues is Mazda. Every single time that car has a problem, they won't fix it until the area supervisor comes in and approves the repair under warranty. Can you imagine if this was my only car? It only took them 60k miles to agree to change out my MAF sensor that was malfunctioning from when it was new. And even then only because they put it on a recall service bulleting list. I have spent hours and hours argueing for 5 years with them, that it had to be the MAF, then one day suddenly MAZDA says, oh those MAF had a problem.
Back to the original post...not safe, not even close. But neither is walking across the street to Walgreens. If you're worried about it, then you shouldn't get one. Calculated risks vs. rewards. If you want safe, go to the Volvo dealership down the street, but I bet the experience will be slightly different...
thanks Barry,
there's not a day that goes by that i don't think about how much i miss my son....

but, this has not stopped me or my kids from driving the freeways...in fact, i seem to drive my "plastic car," as my daughter calls it, more now than ever as the rewards i get from the "therapy" of driving and restoring my old IM far outweigh any concerns i have about safety...again, it's a choice we make when we decide to own and drive a replica...
Frank
Jeremy, if your going to "go back to the original post" then why advise not buying the car if he is isn't comforatable? HE ALREADY BOUGHT IT.

I do agree with the Volvo suggestion however....has anyone else seen the new C70 hardtop.....very nice!!!!!!!!
LOL

And would someone please give me credit of the "it's a four wheel motorcyle" comparison. I get so little credit.
Well, I'm not ever very far from the various forums that I look at. I just haven't looked at this one in some time. RIP .... Please.

Seems as tho this forum's just the same/same as ever. A good ol' boys club, like the other 356 replica forum. BTAIM. That's kewl. Y'all datin'?

I want to publicly apologize to Steve O'Brien. I was under the impression that I was the one being attacked for some unknown reason. And, that may be the case. I don't really know. Steven wrote, "You can go to McDonalds and get a hamburger if you want, it's safe and secure and for most people it is the best choice. Of course most people are weak, uninspired, pussies." I can't remember the last time someone called me a pussy and didn't go to the dentist. But, the way forums are written ... folks being thousands of miles away from responders and giving them the business .... well, that's how folks are.

Anyway, Steve .... I apologize to you for being a dick. At the same time, I'm sorta pissed that you insulted and attacked me, too. At least that is what I felt when I read your posts. I don't need a napkin either, I'm a big boy.

Now, I don't want folks here on this forum to think that I'm some sorta girly man eating his words. This is not the case. I'm just responding. cuz I wanna. Most that posted were fine ... but some were also a$$holes. I don't wanna name names ... you know who you are. :)

Anyway, I'm fine with the whole deal. And, I see that some of my initial posts are now what folks are speaking about. That's kewl, too. I don't need to list those either. Odd how things work out, eh.

Bagger :)~
Bagger, I really wasn't trying to attack you....I'm sorry I insulted you personally, that wasn't my intent. I said "most people" to mean the average general public, but I can see how you took it, and that is my fault for not writing better.

I have actually, had people say much worse things to me and about me on this site without any apology at all....I appreciate the apology.

My favorite insult of all time was when someone said my opinion about things didn't matter, because of my total lack of experience or knowledge with the cars. The person even went on to say how little experience I had without realizing I had owned other cars and driven the cars more miles then him. When I corrected his assumptions and lack of knowledge about me, he never said a word.
HEEEYYYY OD - You beat me to the punchline! BWAAAAA HAAAAA HAAAA HAAA!

...now we know, without a doubt, that Vince is a BAD influence...

Like I've said before, if Vince and I had been stationed on the same military base together, I KNOW our wise-acre attitudes would have gotten us thrown in the brig (for other than me starting several brawls in the NCO Club). I hate when that happens!
Bagger, Glad to hear you are back, You do make a thread more intersting...
I can't help but think that your comment about the Dentist is exactly what you were saying others do because they are not face to face...

"I can't remember the last time someone called me a pussy and didn't go to the dentist". "But, the way forums are written ... folks being thousands of miles away from responders and giving them the business .... well, that's how folks are".

I'm a little disappointed that you feel somehow bigger or that we should be lucky we are not in your presence when and if you feel insulted....

I myself have pissed a few people off from this site, If I had to worry about who I insult I better not go on any runs...
At least unarmed....
