Our friend out in Oregon has to pop the cover off of her air cleaner just about every day before going to work to get the new, nightly nest out of there. The mice caught on a while back and then set up their newest condo in her heater!

I've seen (at home depot) a little electronic device that emits a high frequency sound that supposedly repels mice - Kathy even tried one in our last house and it seemed to work. Can't say I guarantee it, but at least the sounds in the walls got less.

Now we have four mini-Doxies patrolling the garage daily. But, unfortunately, last year they chased a rat up into a wall through a hole in the drywall where they stood watch until it died. Hundreds of blow-flies started to assemble and for a month I thought we were going to have to move out because of the putrid death smell. Exterminators wanted an arm and a leg to tear out the drywall to retrieve it. Their other solution was to burn incense until the body had fully decomposed which we did, reminded me of the 70s. After that situation, we patched up all the drywall, and now we let the Doxies have free rein to patrol the area regularly as they see fit. Result = no rats. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm about to lose my breakfast from all this blow-fly talk.
When the fall chill came early this year, I received a couple of uninvited guests in the house. A couple traps confirmed the worst. I got those plug in electric gizmos and put them in the room where I was pretty sure they were coming in and traps throughout the house. After catching 2 more.....nothing. The dog would stare out the back patio door for about a week after the electric gizmos went in and then she lost interest. So, I think they work.
