Hello all.  My steering wheel has developed a little play---you can hold it at 9 and 3 oclock and there is some play when I push and pull on it and I need to replace the steering wheel bearing.  I did this once before a few years ago and have forgotten how I got the old bearing out.  I'm having a little trouble removing it and am seeking some advice, if anyone knows.  Thought I'd run this by the brain trust.

Thanks!

Thanks, Alan & Michael.

Well, I just finished replacing the steering column bearing and now the steering wheel is solid as a rock, as it should be.  I previously did this 4-5 years ago and sure as hell I forgot how I did it!!  Now I'll make some notes and put them with my spare bearings if there is a next time or if I can help someone else down the road.

My problem was that I failed to remember that the turn signal unit must be removed in order to remove the old bearing.  On my car there is a little phillips head screw at about 7 o'clock on the turn signal unit unit and the unit will slide right off when that is removed from the steering column.  (Some directions I saw on the internet said to remove 4 screws from the face of that turn signal unit---but not my car.)  After getting that off, the bearing slips right out.  Much easier than the cursing and pounding I was doing with the turn signal still on the column as I tried to pry that bearing out.!

Sure glad that's finished.
