My wife has given me the ok to buy a new or newer Speedster with one caveat, I have sell the Speedster I currently own.

I bought my '83 IM about 1 1/2 years ago and got in pretty cheap; however, the car is an '83. I got a chance to visit VS last month and drove Kirk's wife car. After that experience, I've decided I want something a little new with a bigger trans, engine, etc. It's not that my car isn't great, we have a lot of fun with it. However, now I am ready to spend more $$$ to get more car.

That said, I have be comptemplating on what would be the best means for selling my '83 IM. Should I start with this site? Or should I go with all sites at once (e.g., Speedsterowners, ebay, autotrader, hemmings, etc.). Also, should I go with a firm price or an OBO option?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

If you like the one you have, why not just upgrade your engine and whatever else you want to change?

Of course I didn't do that myself; I sold my 2001 IM convertible "D" and ordered a new IM Speedster with more power and different transaxle gear ratios, instruments, brakes, wheels, seats, etc.
George:

I thought about upgrading; however, it would just cost too much to do so. I want a bigger engine, trans, etc... and that's easy enough, just pony up the $$$. The problem is I also want a different color, different seats, etc.... When all is said and don't it seems easier and ultimately cheaper to invest more $$$ and get something that more toward my liking. Probable similar to what you did.

Have fun with your new ride.

David,

My wife said the same thing, however I bought my Convertible D before selling my speedster. I used this form to sell my speedster; it sold in a few days. If you pick a realistic price and provide an honest assessment of the condition of your car you should sell it with out much trouble. You may also want to park it in front of your house with a for sale sign, you never know who has been eyeing your car just waiting for the chance to own one.

So Dave, are you looking for a newer IM, or are you going to go with a VS?

It seems that the bidding doesn't go very high on ebay. Most auctions stall before the bidding gets to the reserve. It still might be worth trying ebay just for the exposure. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the cars get sold after the auction as interested people inquire about the car to see what the reserve was, etc.

Good luck with the sale/purchase.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I will probably end up with a VS. From a supply/demand perspective, there seems to be a number of quality 2 to 4 year old VS's out there. Additionally, I believe the VS's deliver the best price/value relationship.

As for my Speedster, I think I am going to put it up on this site to start and then go from there. I am going to place a very reasonable sale price on the car. My Speedster is what I would call "entry level" for someone who would like to get in a Speedster for around $11G's.

Anyway, thanks again.
