how verify + transfer an sb100 smog exempt vehicle (in CA)

So I have the Beck I want in my sights.
Now, as for the transfer of title. Both the car and I are in CA, and the owner says that the car is smog exempt (but unsure as to whether or not he has the SB100 exemption).

Where do I look for this in the title? Does the SB100 mean that when I purchase the car, the title comes with it (and i don't have to go to the DMV seeking a new smog-exempt status)?

What else should I know about? I am ready to get the car tomorrow!
