How would these wheels look on a 356?

if you're asking for opinions, this self-described wheel slut gives the BBS rims two thumbs down. Maybe if they were deep-dished and on a flared body...maybe not.

Marty's new wheels would look very nice on your car, especially with that color.

My favorite would be gasburners.

That is gonna look pretty odd IMO.

Every time I see BBS wheels in that style, it makes the car feel straight from the 80's. Especially if it's in gold. Personally, I'd take any other style of BBS wheel over that one.

I'd rock them on an auto-X or other track situation, but not for normal driving. 

I'm sure I could have spent more time getting the skew right on the back wheel, but you get the point.  That back wheel is bugging the crap out of my OCD side...

Late to the game here (as you may know I dabble in Photoshop), however, I'd say Ted's work indicates a no. BBS basketweaves are so 80's IMHO.

I couldn't stand the too low pro look. Tried to keep the tire size the same. Still FAILED on that rear rim:

 

 

I think it's the highlight on the wheel that's throwing it off. I need to adjust the 'glare' a bit.

 

Oh well, you get the idea.

Ted, thanks for photoshopping.  I don't think they look terrible, but I also don't think they look great either.  My repo Fuchs wheels look much better.

The ones you have on it now look great.

Similar to Jerome Smith's old car.  His looked pretty decent:

 

 

 Smith's blue speedster has 8 spoke 'pairs'

Whereas the photoshopped wheels on Ron O's are a very busy 15 'pairs'

 

Makes all the difference in the world

fuchs look better and the lips can easily be polished to a chrome like finish--I have done it many times

I like the wheels on Jerome's car, but they're probably 17s and wide.

 

Jerry, that wheel lip looks great.  I polished mine by hand and couldn't get the lips even close to yours.  How did you do it?

Ron- I think I read somewhere that some cast aluminum surfaces don't polish as nicely as forged...Al

I polished them with a  hi speed buffing wheel and semi chrome--if there is a clear coat on them it has to be removed first

I had those wheels on an 80s BMW I had.  Only thing, aside from looks, is they are a pain in the ass to keep clean.  No doubt that BBS make a great TUV approved rim though.  It's a matter of one persons taste ( the one paying the bill).

I agree Frank-they would be a real PITA to keep clean.

Had some 3-piece wheels (weaves?) on one of our 911. White center with polished outer rim. Liked them for a while but eventually put Fuchs back on (black center, polished rim).

 

 

 

I was inspired by the look of the wheels on the car.   ( I kid.. I kid!!)

 

I actually love that people want to try different stuff. If we all did the same thing to our cars, we'd just have a bunch of carbon copies of each other.

That's why there's 31 flavors at Baskin Robbins! 

They are really a pain to clean Ron.  I had them for years and if your brakes dust you need to clean them with a small brush etc.  and often. Not worth the effort but they are pretty.  What's the price?

They look better than I thought they would. It really is hard to make a Speedster ugly.

These days, as we move toward cultural homogeneity and languages are dying, it is nice to see Lane use Pig Latin.

Just my opinion and there are lots of guys who don't agree, but Fuchs are best looking wheel ever made.  To me, the only other wheels that look ok on these cars are the Mangles and Wide 5s, everything else looks like it came from Pep Boys.

Before you flame me, remember, it's just my opinion.

I was looking at a set, in beautiful condition, that listed for $800 on a Miata forum.  I've also seen them for around $600.  They were only offered for a couple of years, so they don't come up for sale very often (in the size I want).

I like the look of Fuchs too, but I'm always looking for something different.  For me, Fuchs (real & replica) have become too common.

Wow Ron!  $600 - $800 bucks seems a bit high.  They were a very standard things in 14 x 6 back in the 80s but those are probably all bent by now.  They were around $150 new at that time if I remember correctly...

IMHO your Roadster looks awesome the way it is now....one of the better looking cars out there honestly.  I've attached a couple of photos, one of a car I found a while ago on line and another of mine currently.  My black wheels came with the car when purchased and so I'm at least waiting for the tires to where down before making a change. It has 225s on the front and 245s on the rear...

Frank, they're BBS wheels and there is only a limited number out there in that size, offset, and bolt pattern.  Like everything else, they've gone up in price in the last few years ( supply and demand).

Got it Ron.  This is true.  I always liked them.  Matter of fact I still have a center cap to that style with the BBS logo on it in my garage.  Just ran across it the other day.
