I'm switching from a wood rimmed to a banjo steering wheel and the adapter I have places the wheel too close to the dash. You can see from the picture that the hub on my old wheel places it almost three inches closer to the driver. My steering shaft is 21 MM with 40 splines. I've been poking around looking at different hubs and the one that looks the best (see pic) is for a 75-79 bus but I don't know the shaft size. I'm sure I'm not the first to run into this. Can anyone recommend a particular hub?

eBay has them but you can easily fabricate a plate adapter and do a steering wheel paint match with a DupliColor rattle can, still use your old hub saving you some bucks.
ISP west is the way to go. No need to go through eBay. Call them directly, they are very easy to work with.... Their web site have dtails on diameter, height, and spline size/#teeth per shaft. then paint with matching rattle can ivory finish.... I will dig up the color code... I know I have it somewhere.
they carry hubs for all three shafts sizes depending on yr... http://www.vwispwest.com/GA-999B.html

Color code I got years ago from Kirk @ VS, and used on my car steering colum and hub to match the wheel., when I had the banjo, and later to match my wood wheel hub yo my steering column.
Dupli-Color BFM0041 Wimbledon White Ford Exact-Match Automotive Paint - 8 oz. Aerosol
i would suggest using a clear coat afterwards to help protect the paint from chips.
2013 picture of my old wheel/ISP hub combo.

Is that color the best matching for the ivory trim pieces? I've been looking for a good matching spray...
Closest Kirk recommended... And what he uses in his shop. And with a mat clear coat its almost exact... Unfortunately, every interior knob, button, Ivory bit I have ever purchased is a big different in color. Reference the above picture.... I purchased the radio knobs and wiper knobs, and old vw shifter knobs at the same time from the same supplier, but the color is darker on the two knobs I installed on the radio.
overall... It did the trick for me.
I also used the Ford paint for the bows on my soft top.
