Hub cap fit

I just received some new flat style hub caps and have a fit problem. They are what appear to be original Porsche and are really loose when I tried to install one last night. I guess they may be from a later model (356C). I thought I might try to use the old style hub cap clips used on the wide 5 wheels to keep them on. Has any one out there had any experience or knowledge of trying to make them work.

The flat caps started around '63 I think. That would make then what, late, late B and C? I also remember seeing them on a handful of 912's last year.

Yea TC you are correct my 63 coupe had them. The are just a little undersized to fit snugly on my 4 lug wheels.

The flat caps we're introduced with the 356C. The new design was used for the wide 5(s) with disc brakes. The clips from the wide 5 will not work with the 4 lug wheels. With the 4 lug wheels you are limited to the baby moons or the EMPI nipple caps.

Or the the flat caps from the 914, or the strange aftermarket flat caps that look like a cross between the 356C and the 914 caps and HAVE the nipple style Porsche crest . . . which I have a set of right here beside me.

They have some small pit but look great at arms length. Wanna see 'em?

Well it looks like I have a set of real porsche caps with crests that I can't use. E-bay here they come. TC yup I would like to see the pics. I have baby moons but they have been dented a bit and don't look great. I guess I just have to live with em for a while longer.

I have four sets of different Wheel Covers.

1 set is for a Wide 5 Lug Pattern, they are Nipple type & New Wolfsburg caps.

I'm in near Fresno.

My Son lives in Sacramento and I'll see him nest Saturday.

If you are interested, I'll give them to him and you can physically check them out. I'll take $75.00 for them.

I have 4 lug wheels not wide 5. Since I just bought these from a very honest guy who is a member here and he thought they were OK for my wheels, I need to be sure any new ones fit before I buy them. I dont need any more hub caps in my garage. So please let me know if you have any that would fit my ride.

If you go with the 5 lug caps, you'll need to bend out the lip a little to make them fit, and they still won't look correct, as the five lug cap was designed to fit flush with the rim.
If you're going to stay with the 4 lug rims, I'd advise going with the 4 lug nipple cap with the Porsche crest - bought my hubcaps from California Import Parts and bought the crests from Parts Obsolete.
If you do decide to buy from CIP have them re-chromed immediately.

I'm going to be switching to wide 5's soon and will need a set.

What is the condition of the caps, any rust, scratches, etc.?

If your flat hubcaps are like the ones that are used on Beck Speedsters (look at Beck photos under "Makers" tab of this website), then they will work if you use the VW clips. You have to install the clips inboard a little and centered on the 4 bolt VW wheels to get the caps to fit.

Buy the EMPI nipple caps (CIP1 @ $19.95 each) and put the Porsche crests from the ones you have on them replacing the EMPI crests.
