ordered empi 4 lug nipple hubcaps and plan to swap the crests with the porsche crests. Tweeks offers the porsche crests in ceramic as well as silver in their catalog. silver crest is almost double the cost. were both versions an option? it seems like most guys have the black ceramic but i'm thinking the silver may be pretty cool. it's a personal preference but what do you guys think?

Did a little bit of research and found out that the cermaic crests are correct for the nipple caps, first used on the T2s (listed in the optional equipment booklet).

The silver crests were found on 356Cs on the flat hub caps. I'm going to go with the ceramic ones for the nipple caps I ordered.
Those all silver crests turn up on Ebay all the time for pretty short money, compared to the black emaneled ones. Louis Paras and Wilholt (sp) usually have a set up for auction.

I get the feeling that those two bought out a lot of the stash at Obsolete. I just wish that they grabbed a spare bent window windshield to sell me. Nobody's got 'em!

Luck,

Hey Derek!

I'm not sure if you already have those hubcaps installed on your car or if you just ordered them. I'm sure you're aware that you need to specify either 5-lug or 4-lug wheels. Additionaly, I think there may be 2 different wheel configurations for hubcap attachment for the 4-lug wheel. I'm not expert on this (and I may be totally wrong, which won't be the first time) but there are people more expert than I on this thread who can clarify this.

Either way, I think the nipple hubcaps (with ceramic crests) will add that extra detailed look to your car!

TC,

Send me a personal e-mail with your address and I'll send you the EMPI crests (no charge).

I ordered the 4 lug EMPI hubs and they have yet to arrive. I ordered the ceramic porsche crests along with a bunch of misc. other stuff from NLA. I think the crests are attached with clips at the back and can be easily removed/replaced (I guess I'll find out soon).
I got the EMPI hub caps, the crests were stuck on with epoxy and some pins. Removed them and put them in the mail to TC. Got the NLA crests which are excellent quality. The NLA crest pins fit the holes in the EMPI hubs perfectly. Used some epoxy on the NLA pins to install the NLA crests on the EMPI hubs. New super hubs fit perfectly on the car!
And, even MORE importantly . . . I just received the EMPI crests and they're WONDERFUL. Really well made, equal to the enameled Porsche crests for sure.

Thanks Buddy! I'll put them to excellent use! I have a set of Empi eight spokes on my 914, all done up in graphite with yellow hash marks where the metal air stems protrude. (They're going against a silver body with SCCA/road racing livery) The wheels came with plastic repro caps and vinyl EMPI stickers, I have aluminum caps on them now and these enameled crests will just finish off the detailing.

I thought about Porsche caps, 'cept they aren't factory wheels, but ARE genuine EMPI, so why now be proud of it.

Thanks SO much ! ! !
