I found that the following method works for my 4-bolt wheels/hubcaps;

1. Position the hubcap so that one side has been positioned over 2 of those wheel nubs (flushed against the wheel).
2. The opposite side of the hubcap should be positioned as resting on 1 of the 2 nubs on the other side of the wheel.
3. With the heel of your palm, strike the edge of the hubcap resting directly on either of those 2 nubs. It should pop on the wheel without denting your hubcap (don't ask me how I know!).
