I hired a new mechanic, who is going to be my arms, while I recover.

I just got back from my Dr. and I start the physical therapy tomorrow.

I might be able to drive next week. Since the Hustler is up in the air,

I'm going to start on all the underneath stuff, brake lines, hoses, brgs.

and drums etc. etc. Does anyone know where I can find a kit that includes

all the metal lines, rubber lines, and all the rest of the brake parts?

I never heard back from Will or SCHU about the diorama. Are you guys

intersted?

I've never seen one of the 43 built but assumed that since engine was Porsche 356 and transmission (?) then it would have the large 356 brakes.  I recall you saying it had smaller tires though so the 356 brakes would not fit. In reading on the Hustler, it appears its on a 10" shortened VW pan so same parts as used on a pan based Speedster would work - just have to figure the year of the pan so brake wheel cylinders & shoes are correct.

CIP1 or any of the VW places would carry what you need.

Pelican does carry high quality VW, MB, Audi, Mini, SAAB, Volvo, BMW plus Porsche parts.

As far as I can see, it's all 1967 bug. The registration and the vin# agree.

I was hoping to get a kit with pre-bent lines. I've fit a bunch of

them over the years, but since this is a special car, I figured the go the

extra mile and get the ones that really fit. No matter how hard I try, I

can never get the bends, and length perfect. I guess I could call J Bugs,

or Samba, but you always surprise me with the answers to all my questions.

I'm afraid that I've become lazy because of you.

I really need to buy one of those cheap HF brake line benders.  They do a neat job of making bends.  I recall that the long front to back line came in 2 pieces with a coupler in the middle.  I'm sure this is because of extra cost to ship a 6" piece of tubing. Like on a Speedster for the Hustler - it would have to either be shortened 10" or coiled around a coffee can to take up 10" in a loop.

Pittsburgh® 3755 Tubing Bender

I was just being lazy. I have a tubing bender, not as nice as that one, and

have bent up plenty of lines. I had one customer have me custom make

all the lines on his dunebuggy out of copper lines. I had to measure, bend,

and put the bubble flairs on each end. Half the time, the damn ends would

leak. I remade, and remade those lines a dozen times. I decided at that point

that factory lines were the way to go.  On some cars you can buy the whole

system, just bolt them in. Usually one of you guys comes up with the miracle

solution. You can't win all the time. I, considering my limited tube bending

condition, I was hoping for the best. I'm going to my shop tomorrow, with

my arm duct taped to my body, and start taking all the tubes and hoses of the

bottom of the car. Have you noticed how Chatty I am since my recent stuck

at home situation?
