hydraulic clutch- plus or minus

I would like to get some feed back on the positives or negatives of converting to a hydraulic clutch. thanks.

I'm not sure how difficult it would be not having done it, but I love hydraulic clutches. My Subytub has one.

It probably takes some doing to do the conversion but if I had the gumption to do it I would. Cables stretch and break, and will do so more often than any slave cylinder will fail. Master cylinders and slave cylinders will last way longer without trouble or failure.

Haven't the sand rail guys been doing this for years?? I thought Kimco had a hydraulic clutch conversion kit a while back that included a new pedal cluster. You'd have to drill some holes in the bulkhead to mount the clutch master cylinder, but that doesn't seem too hard, and the line would run right next to the rear brake line.

Damn near every sand rail in the southwest (maybe 10,000?) has a hydraulic clutch. Mounting the pedals in a speedster body would be the biggest problem I can see. Check out any issue of "Dune Buggies and Hot VWs" magazine. Ads up the yang-yang for that kind of stuff.

He's actually done a very nice install, but the VW cable system, installed on millions of cars probably is good for about 100k miles? Cost $10 buck to replace?

Attaching the slave cylinder using the typical VW tranny mount (as most hydraulic set-ups do) is not a perfect solution due to the range of motion and can cause more maintenance issues down the road also.

I agree, it looks and sounds cool, but I'm not convinced it's for everyone, or if it's needed.
