My new VS finally got here last week. The knuckleheads from the local IRS here want to charge me $5,667.37 in excise tax! Would you believe that for a '68 VW chassis? I'm appealing the decision so I haven't been able to drive it out of the storage area. The car is beautiful but it sustained some shipping damage; they chipped some paint off the left door edge as well as knocked off the molding on that same door and part of the front fender on that side. Also water got inside the tailight and license plate lenses and the chrome on the tailight assemblies was starting to show some rust. Some rust stained water fell on the right door handle. I also noticed that the door handle rubber seals looked cracked (just like in a 20 yr. old VW; is that normal? the car was just built.) I strongly suspect the car was more exposed to the elements than I wished. I paid for enclosed carrier. Since it was insured, everything will be taken care of. Still, the car is beautiful. My 5 year old daughter keeps asking when I'll bring it home. I can't wait to drive it out of there!

Hi guys! Finally picked up the car and brought it home today. Everything happened exactly as you said. On the short trip from the ports to my house 3 people either asked me about the car, complimented it or gave me a thumbs up. Also, as some of you told me, I could tell my wife liked it as soon as she saw it; she even hopped in for a short ride this afternoon. I cleaned her up but now I need to get an estimate at the body shop to get the shipping damage repaired. I'm also experiencing a couple of small problems but I'll post those in the Technical forum.
