After giving serious consideration to paint or powder I decided to go with new allow wheels. I called Cary Hinds first; he did not have 4 bolt alloys, but advised me where to buy them. Mobelwagen.com has numerous and sundry wheels for these here plastic cars. The cost is about $200 each and $40 shipping for the lot. After putting the pencil to the options; alloy's seemed the thing to do.

The wheels are really nice 10 holers...but they don't just bolt on to 4 bolt hubs with disc brakes. Shims are required a pair is about $100 so $200 for the car. I bought 5/16" cast aluminum and will make the shims so I'm not rolling yet. Maybe this week.IMG_20221010_155204096

Other than with the wide 5's, I'm used to seeing a round center hole for bearing cap clearance.  These don't have that - does that mean a special adapter is needed to mount and balance the tires?

The closest to home tire store could not balance the tires. They had a balance machine that spun the wheel vertically and did not have the adapter to do the job. The 2nd store I tried had no problem. Their machine spun horizontally and centered with a cone shaped fitting.

I'll know pretty soon if they're balanced or not...fingers crossed

I had my Speedster wheels (Fuchs 5-spoke with 205/16 tires) balanced at three different places in two different states and they always vibrated after they were balanced.

Then, I got on the Hunter site and looked for a “Road Force” wheel balancer near me and found one where I bought my daily driver.  Drove over there with Pearl and asked simply, “Does your tech know what the hell he is doing with your Road Force Balancer or should I just go somewhere else?”

They told me he was really good so I trusted him.   DAMN!  Best wheel balancing I’ve ever bought!  It was like a whole different car!  Went back the next day and gave the shop a case of beer.

When I swapped my rims for Greg's 4 bolt 10 hole rims I wanted the weights on the inside. I was told by the guy that put the tires on the rims to find a place with a Road Force machine. I did. And I agree it was the best tire balancing ever done.

I ran into the same thing with my Alfa. Two different tires stores had me going to an alignment shop to try and suss out a vibration 80mph<.  The alignment shop suggested a road force balancer and I told them I wanted them balanced to 120 mph. Problem solved.

Lately Discount seems to do a pretty good job with my 968, but I rarely get it up past 100 any more.
