My exwife returned a bunch of old photos and I came across these and just had to share them with someone.

This one is my 57 Chevy. I did the classic conversion from an automatic to a 3 speed on it. And my 305 Honda Scrambler with Carrie my first love on the back. I stole her from my friend's brother and then he and his buddies beat me up and she went back to him and broke my heart. The first of many broken hearts, but I'm sure I broke a couple along the way too.

This one is my 1962 (I think) 356 SC Sunroof coupe. I paid $6,000 for it, rebuilt the engine and sold it a year later for $6,000.

Gerd...Put a sunroof in it!

This one is my 1961 MGA. I actually had two of them and I split the rims and widened them by 4 inches. I raced it at Orange County International Raceway and they put me in the J-Gasser class. I always got a trophy because there was never anyone else in that class. It looked cool, but it was slower than molasses. The announcer used to always say "looks like the MGA is still having it's problems" but it was actually running as good as it could! Also my Triumph Bonneville (I had two of them too) and the first new car I ever bought, a 1970 AMX 390 with a 4 speed and 4:11 gears....hauled ass!

This one is my 1976 930. I did an all steel conversion from a 1976 911S. Also, my 1975 911SC Targa. Both were real babe magnets at the time.

But, none of them were as fun as my Speedster!

Thanks for indulging me.

On top of the cars and the music, I was very fortunate that my parents decided to move to California when I was in the 7th grade.

It was 15 degrees below zero when we left Michigan with my mom and dad and 5 kids in the Rambler station wagon towing a 28 X 8 trailer. We parked that thing in the OceanView trailer park just off of Gothard and Warner in Huntington Beach and lived in it for a year before they bought a house.

I experienced the beach craze 1st hand with all the movies, the Beach Boys, skateboarding and surfing. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything!

"I always thought the MGA looked a lot like a Cobra and I considered modifying the front end like this, but never could afford to do it."

That just looks like a giant sized reinforced crotch from a pair of enormous pantyhose, pasted over the nose of an MGA . . . just how expensive WAS a stretch of nylon back then?

We have an old saying around here, "If you can't afford the pantyhose, you shouldn't own the car."

wish I could see the pix -- just get little boxes w/ red x in side. -?-

Did see the buick MG, however. Very cool stuff there, elegantly done, and of course, if one got into it, one could go way more than 200 hp inside that envelope. The article sounded like the car was/is for sale -?- Anywho, you CA dudes did not have the monopoly on V8s stuffed into british roadsters -- no sir. Spent an early 60's summer helping a friend drop a V8 into his Austin Healy. Some fun that was, especially the couple of quick turns around the block sans muffler to see if everything was bolted on. What a hoot. One can see various renditions of this sort of thing on display at the Carlisle show nowadays -- there are always several such MGs, A-H, Triumphs done this way sprinkled in w/ the purists who love to f--- around w/ their tiny four-bangers and twin SUs . . .

Alan mentioned Jan and Dean and look what I also found in those photos my ex returned.

The first one is Jan and Dean at a concert in Fresno in the early 80s. Dean is holding my skateboard, which I handed up to him on the stage. Notice that there is a piece of paper taped to it.

The second picture is Dean riding my skateboard.

The third one is the piece of paper that I had taped to the board and I asked them to sign it. Not only did they sign it, but they also signed the board and I still have it. I'm pretty sure that Dean signed for both of them because Jan's right arm was partially paralized after his car wreck near "Dead Man's Curve."
Jan died in 2004, but Dean is still around and lives in Huntington Beach.
