Aren't red or blue lights illegal in front of a vehicle in some places unless it's a police car?
Wow, I don’t know!
Bad hang over after night on the town?
In California, and every other state (IIRC), the use of any forward facing light that isn't white, yellow, or amber is illegal. Red forward facing lights are definitely illegal. Red lighting can only be used for the rear side markers and rear facing lights. The white headlight is preferred but yellow is allowed but it's very rare. Amber is for front side marker lights, front marker lights, and turn signals.
Thanks for the info! These are running lights and I've had them in for years, but never used them (I run 24/7 with the headlights on). When I recently added the amber fog lights, I thought it looked cool. Now I know it's cool and illegal!
The amber fogs are cool, and legal. The red running lights are not.
Here in Utah both red and blue lights are illegal on the front of a vehicle.

You're okay on the amber lights but not the red headlights.

Don't forget the "blue lights," Bob. You know in CA they're as much a "no-no" as "red lights" are. I can't recall when the "blues" were added to the "reds" on patrol cars. I do remember, though, when I got my Learner's Permit the only thing I had to watch out for was one flashing red light on the roof of a B&W Ford.

I didn't mention them because they weren't being sed here. But you're correct blue lights are a no no. As are any color except white, yellow, amber, and red when used as directed by the vehicle code. All others are illegal also while the vehicle is operated on a roadway. You can outfit your car with every color of the rainbow and then some for car shows and other functions not conducted on a roadway.
In Ca. I recall that blue lights came into use in 1968 and have an actual SAE number that designates the light color by a spectrographic number. In Ca. all light colors used for vehicles and traffic control have a specific spectrographic color designation. That little SAE# on each lens is the key to looking up what exactly the color is...Bruce
