If I ever do another IM it will be very similar to this, but maybe a bit more outlaw.  I love the dark green interior and the black.  The extra power would also be sweet.  Still going to like the one I have for long time.

Nice car and well it should be.    I notice a couple things which might add considerable value to the car.   First Rack and Pinion steering.   Would that make the car easier to park?  My JPS is a hand full with the low tire pressures.  I assume power steering is not available on any of these cars?   Assuming the 914 front suspension and R&P is a significant plus.

Transmission?   What's IM doing there?

Compromises would be hard to accept at that price point.

Front suspension is 914 adjustable torsion bar, same as my car.  It has a great feel.  I was bottoming out a bit coming quickly down twisty mountain roads so I stiffened it up a bit.  Of course this also raises the front end a little.

No power steering.  I would not want it.  There is a bit of effort at a stop but very little when the car is moving even with my small leather steering wheel.

Tranny is probably the weak link with these cars.  This car has same tranny as mine, Type 1 VW with 3.88 final drive.  My car is geared way too low with just 117hp.  This car has 165 hp.  It really needs a 3.44 final drive.  Some on this site have gone to Porsche 5 speed trannys.  Great upgrade but very pricey.  I've gotten used to the ancient Type 1 VW tranny and I do believe it will be durable but if and when I do it again it will be a 3.44 4 speed with standard gearing mated to the 165 hp suby.

Yes Hoss with 5 gears you can get by with a lower 1st gear.  With a 4 speed all gears need to be a bit higher and rely on torque to get the car going.  So you're not revving so high at highway speeds.  Obviously the engine has to have the kahunas in the 1st place.  If all you got is a 1600 VW engine you will have to stick with a 3.88 or even a 4.11.  These statements are all assuming standard VW type 1 tranny gearing.
