Been away from internet for a few days and now catching up!

What? Oh nothing, just got in a bit of a smash-up on our way to West Coast Cruise this past weekend! Ginny a little banged up, I'm OK, the car looks like it will be totaled. Was about to go full-on Guamaniac on the a-hole driver who caused all this grief but fortunately thought better of it, didn't need another assault thing to deal with. But that's a whole nutha story. I'll leave it at that until I sort out our legal options.

TO ALL MY SOC FRIENDS at the West Coast Cruise, A SPECIAL THANKS for everything you did to help Ginny & I through this ordeal.

A HEART-FELT THANKS TO ALL MY KNUCKLEHEAD SOC FRIENDS for your kind words and messages! I am fortunate to have so many good friends on this site who have proven once again why I think this is the greatest group of folks a gear head could hope to be associated with.

Hey Jim,

Loooong distance greetin from cape Town buddy, so sorry to hear about your mishap dude.. I did post on the Facebook Page group about if your chassis wasn't damaged, possibly the fabricators could consider grafting on a new nose onto your car.. I don't know what the extent of the damage is, but just glad to hear no one was hurt man..

Take it easy, and see what your options are.

cheers for now

regards

Alan

Pete Venuti and his wife and Kathy and I were off on a weekend assault of Saratoga Springs with our local 356 club when I see this little picture and one-liner on the FB Speedster page from Kevin Zagar with a smashed-up 356 and Jim's license plate...

Couldn't find anything else, so I called Jim and got the low-down.  Really, really sad, but, for the most part, they are both OK and THAT is what really counts.  After hearing what happened, it could have been one hell of a lot worse.

Hope Ginny's bumps mend quickly and you both find happiness in another Speedster that you can hang your plate on (or maybe even a coupe!)

Get well and get back on here.......

Jim and another car were approaching an intersection from opposite directions. Car opposite Jim was waiting to make a left turn. Left turn was sitting there with wheels turned and got rear-ended, which pushed him into Jim's path. Jim had nowhere to go, as he was moving through with a green light. At least that was the story I got.

I hadn't intended to post pics of our crash for fear it would FREAK OUT our family, but it got out before I knew about it, there ya go!

I was leading our 15-car caravan to SLO on Hwy 1 north of Malibu. We were in northbound direction, and I see a car up ahead in the southbound lane waiting to make a left turn across our lane.

As I get within 100 feet of that car's position, that car gets rear-ended by a pick-up trick. The impact of that accident pushes the car directly into our lane leaving me no time or direction to maneuver, impact at 50 mph.

Luckily everyone was able to walk away without any apparent major injury. Its best I leave it at that while all the legalities are worked out!

Thanks again to all my awesome SOC friends!

Jim,

I'm really sorry to hear about your accident, and im glad to hear that you and your wife were able to walk away from it. I've been on and off this site for the past 2 years and your Speedster is by far one of my favs, I hope everything works out and youre back on the road in a Speedster soon.

I was right behind Jim at the time and had a very clear view. The way that I saw it is the guy driving the Nissan making the left hand turn started the turn then changed his mind and stopped. The guy in the truck locked up his brakes but it was too late and he rear ended the Nissan. The Nissan had his wheels pointing into the turn so the car went in that direction. Jim was not able to respond in time and hit the rear quarter panel of the Nissan spinning it 180 degrees. One more second delayed and I think Jim would have cleared the Nissan - it was that close.

When I saw the Nissan do his pump-fake on the left turn I already started braking as I believe Jim did. The surprise came when the truck hit the Nissan and things became unavoidable.

I think I am okay writing this as this is what I told the CHP at the scene. And, yes, I think all of the Speedsters were a definite distraction motoring down PCH.
