After much fasting & praying, and a background check... Alan R. Merklin, aka Drclock is building me my very 1st classic 356 speedster!!! I'm so excited I can't stand it. With the help of a bunch of great people on this site, I've been able to narrow down a few things that my dream machine will have. So many choices, so many ideas. For sure it will be the "classic" speedster Porsche look.

EXCELLENT decision! Going with Alan (Dr. Clock) You will get a well built, nicely sorted car that will provide you MANY miles of top-down cruising. Looking forward to seeing pics of you in your new ride.

Paul & I have compiled build list with his preferences & build slot starting mid September, It's going to be a classic... classic.
Paul---how smart you were to get Alan to build your car. The people who have gotten Speedsters from Alan are all thrilled with their choice and many have won trophies at car shows with Merklin-built cars---just ask Syl and Maggie! To me, the greatest advantage is that your car will be pretty much completely sorted and as trouble free as they come.

If you go with bee hives you have to get LEDs. Can't see brake lights at all during the day with conventional bulbs. I have tear drops but I've followed behind plenty of people with bee hives. Not good. A brake light in the rear grill is also a nice safety touch.

LED beehives are not cheap, but for safety's sake, they are worth it. Also, as Phil says, a high level brake light is a good idea.
Did Alan tell you that a requirement for purchasing one of his cars is that it must be returned to the manufacturer's satellite facility in Carlisle, PA every May for check up and servicing (if necessary)? His crew of occasionally talented and often lubricated technicians provides excellent support, but can only do so if they have hands-on at that time of the year. Just so ya know...
