@Troy Sloan thanks for the info. I suspected the lugs would be different. Those were the sizes listed on my working invoice but I believe the 275/45/17 is a bit of an oddball?

for better or worse I have time to get it sorted so I’m not overly concerned at this point. And I trust that Greg will get me dialed in.

I originally wanted the Fuch style wheels, which I’m hoping to still be able to get with the size change. From the limited research I’ve done, I believe them to be custom wheels that VMC uses, so not Fuch replicas per se, but Fuch styled. I’m sure you know infinitely more about them then I do so please feel free to enlighten me!

Are the bigger wheels on a super wide a positive and negative type deal? As in- larger tires for better handling, but also heavier, adding more weight?

thanks in advance!

Based on my experience with both my Alfa and Porsche 911SC, neither of which had power steering, steering effort was greatly increased with taller, wider, lower profile tires. In hindsight, I can’t really say they handled better, but neither had enough power or were ever driven in such a manor that I would ever really notice. When I replaced the big, fat TA’s for some OEM-sized tires on the Alfa 3 years ago, it was like I’d added power steering and it seemed like it was 1,000lbs lighter.

I’ve also heard that wider, lower profile tires wear suspension/steering bits out faster, but neither cars were ever driven enough to notice.

They sure looked cool, though.

I had several people tell me over the course of my 15 years of ownership that the 17” wheels made the 911 look 20 years younger. I kind of agree. They guy who bought it didn’t want them, though, so I still have them sitting in the storage unit.
