OK. Fom my other thread, it sounds like I need a new muffler, but can I just go to Auto Zone and tell them I need a muffler for a 69 VW. I guess what I need to know, is, is there a difference between a muffler for a 1776cc engine and a 1915cc engine (like mine) or are they all the same regardless of the engine size? Thanks for the help.

There are a lot of different kinds of header/mufflers on the market. Some have 1 1/2 tubing, other have 1 5/8 tubing etc.

A lot depends on where you want the exhaust tip to show on the back, if you have a heater, if you want loud or soft and the list goes on an on.

I may have commented on your other thread but I don't remember, before you run out and buy a muffler try replacing the gaskets, they may be the source of the leak.

Call VW Country in Bakersfield or CB Performance in Farmersville
VW Country (661) 326-8092 ask for Mike and tell him Larry Jowdy told you to call

Greg, you are absolutely right. I try to use Bugcity in CT, evwparts.com down by you in MD, and a local imported car parts place near me in Poughkeepsie.

But in a pinch, on a Sunday, Autozone, yes Autozone, had rear wheel cylinders in stock, on the shelf when I needed them! Otherwise it's just oil and bulbs and stuff. I did buy an electric rotary fuel pump from them, just ask for an electric pump for a '68 Bug. Self-regulated at 3 to 3.5 psi, has a screw-in pre-filter, and has been working fine for 5 years now.
