This little experiment is temporary. I put Scotchlite inside my doors because there's no light on the back of the car with the hatch up. I'm thinking of doing this more carefully and maybe with a bit more material, but this was such a PITA that I'd rather not do it again if it's deemed to be a retarded idea by my peers.
I tend to try stuff out before I think it through; this was a passing thought. For my next amazing act, I'm going to fabricate a Hoopty-worthy luggage rack and attach it to Mickey's old decklid, and then make it line up with my Dzus buttons.

Let's have a vote on the Scotchlite, shall we? Keep or scrape?

Hey Corey---that's a good idea with the reflective material inside the door jambs----I'm going to do the same for my VS.

I don't know about lights but feel that reflective material will do the job adequately.

My only thought is to put maybe 3 strips of material inside the door jamb---even a solid area of reflective material covering all of the jamb would be helpful.

Very glad to see your great car back in action!----Jack
Jack, thanks! Feels good to be back on the streets.
Alan, I have one in the other car already; used to hang in the both of the 928s. I may have to get another one. :)
Mickey, you (and everyone else) can have all the test-drives you want. I really like sharing this thing with you folks.
Oscar, I'm a fireman. I did take the idea from the new NFPA requiring this stuff on apparatus -- good call. See the first photo ...
Mike, as for the four-ways, I don't have any. And the wiring harness stops at the front of the engine compartment, where there's a connection that only reaches when the body section is down and locked. When it's up, there's no way to power the lights in the rear, so I figured this would make sense.
Every Porsche I've ever had had lights on the trailing edges of the doors, but not this guy. Maybe I'll wire some into the holes that already exist. That's on the projekt list now, along with my door handles, a luggage rack/Dzus decklid, oil breather upgrade and a bimini top/Lexan windshield combo.

More test data: The second picture was with the bay lights on, using the phone camera and a hand-held flashlight. The third was just using the phone's spotlight from about 30 feet away.
Keep the opinions coming. If there's enough call for this stuff, maybe I'll order up some more and make some I can mail to interested parties.

Sorry - no...

But in the same line of thought let me propose this: You can get the retro-reflective tape in silver-ish or black. The motorcycle guys use it all the time, I've even got some of it on my helmet.

Why not take a silverish sheet, cut out some crazy shape that suits your personality - and put that on the car? This is a pretty white looking sample below (and it's way way huge...) but I've seen it far more silver than this:

You could also do the hoopty's number in an orange reflective - that might look really cool at night and give "rearward visibility..."
